I recently reported on my Workation in Thailand. Just one week later, I went on another 4-day trip to Mauritius. Rather an unusual destination for work & travel, but it worked out quite well for personal reasons.
Once again as a reminder: In a workation you try to combine the two worlds "Work" and "Vacation" in the best possible way. It is therefore a Mix of work and vacation. This used to be unthinkable, but today, with the vastness of the Internet, it is an unstoppable trend.
Destination of my workation in Mauritius
As with my first workation, my intention for the workation was to create a healthy work-life balance. I wanted to put my learnings from my work in Thailand into practice.
Above all, this meant switching off more in my head when I wasn't sitting at my Macbook. But, of course, it also meant maintaining a good level of availability for my customers and completing important tasks without restrictions. For me, that is Basic requirement and I won't mention it again in future.
For me, that's simply the be-all and end-all. As soon as the Quality of my work and support would suffer as a result, would be one Workation not an option more.
In my Leisure time this time I had decided to make a Snorkeling trip and in my Book "The Millionaire Fastlane" progress.
Achieved work-life balance with wifi problems
Overall, I would have expected less work, but as we all know, you don't always have complete control over that.
Negative factors were the regular wifi problems. Once the power even went out for 2 hours, so I had to stop work for the day completely. Of course, working internet is a basic requirement in my job. I read the reviews afterwards and learned from them to take them into account more in my choice of location in future. Some hotel guests noted internet problems there.
However, I was able to solve the problem by using the Most of the time in the pool pavilion (unfortunately no photo taken) was working. The connection was stable there because the router or a repeater was placed there.
To summarize:
- 29 hours worked
- Wifi problems, found best location after 2 days without problems
- Work breaks taken with beach breaks observed
- Experience a snorkeling trip with a fantastic underwater world
- Read more than at home, but still room for improvement 🙂
Conclusion of my workation in Mauritius
Despite the wifi problems, Mauritius was also a great experience and, on the whole, a success. I was able to combine a healthy mix of work and free time: Getting all the work done, exploring the underwater world and clearing my head.
